The main task of this part is to charge the photodrum with a uniform negative charge. In some cartridges, the shaft performs the function of a kind of wiper - it cleans the photo drum from toner residues and paper dust. The primary charge shaft gets dirty with paper dust, so it requires regular cleaning.
