The Teflon or heating shaft is the main part of the fuser unit (tube) of a laser printer. The Teflon shaft is a hollow metal cylinder covered with a layer of heat-resistant Teflon. This coating prevents the toner from sticking to the surface of the element.
A powerful lamp is installed in the cylinder cavity, which heats up to a very high temperature (+ 170C!) and heats the surrounding components. The device is protected from overheating by a temperature sensor - a thermistor, which turns off the lamp after reaching peak values. There are no other methods of cooling the system.
But over time, the Teflon coating wears off, and then the toner starts to stick to the shaft. As a result, stripes appear on the prints, smeared images, and often the paper comes out of the machine very hot or gets stuck in the thermal unit. In this case, it is necessary to replace the Teflon shaft, as well as the separators of the paper compartment.
