A projection screen is a design with a special structure designed to display an image on a screen.

Screens can be designed for direct projection or reverse projection (projection into the lumen). Direct projection screens, in which the projector and viewers are located on the same side of the screen, are more common. Light projection, in which the projector is installed behind the screen that the audience is looking at, allows for more subtle manipulation of the light flow, optimizing its parameters.

The task of the projection screen is to collect all the light transmitted to it by the source and disperse it evenly in all directions, and this should happen at every point of the projection screen. The critical projection angle (under which the projector can be in relation to the screen) and the critical viewing angle depend on the quality of the scattering layers.

The projector transmits the light flux in the first approximation with parallel beams (if we consider the light of the projector falling on small areas of the screen), thanks to the focusing of the beam to transmit the image over a distance without significant dispersion in space. The conclusion of the image on the screen is carried out in two ways: by scattering reflected light (direct projection screen) or by scattering light that has passed through a transparent screen (projection on the lumen).
