The similarity lies in one more thing: when we rub the skin of one hand against the skin of the other, heat penetrates deep into the muscle tissue. So do microwaves: they work only in a relatively small surface layer of food, not penetrating deeper than 1-3 cm. Therefore, heating of products occurs due to two physical mechanisms - microwave heating of the surface layer and subsequent penetration of heat into the depth of the product due to thermal conductivity.
