Power consumption level Ubiquiti USG-PRO-4 increased from 7 to 40 W, so a more powerful 60 W power supply unit hidden in the device case is used here. The body itself is made of an alloy that resembles aluminum, so it harmoniously fits into the line of UniFi devices. On the back there is a socket for the power cable, as well as ventilation holes and 2 cooling fans. The new USG-PRO-4 is built on the basis of EdgeRouter PRO, the EdgeMax family, so these two routers have a lot in common, both externally and in terms of hardware.

The difference between Security Gateway PRO and EdgeRouter PRO lies in the software used and the set of network interfaces. Instead of 8 interfaces, only 4 are soldered here: the first two RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet network interfaces; ports 3-4, as well as SFP slots are combined, that is, when SFP is connected, RJ-45 interfaces are automatically disabled. A total of 4 active ports are available in any combination. A console port and a USB port are provided.

Compared to USG, the amount of RAM has increased by 4 times - up to 2 GB. The changes also affected the processor, the Octeon of the second generation is used here - Cavium Octeon II (MIPS64) with two cores and a clock frequency of 1 GHz. Hardware acceleration of packet processing is supported.

Total performance when working with packets of 64 bytes is 2.4 Mpps (million packets per second). When the packet size increases to 512 bytes, the performance is limited only by the number of network interfaces and is 4 Gbit/s. As a reminder, in EdgeRouter PRO, this hardware platform provides 8 Gbit/s, thanks to the presence of 8 ports.
