FiberBox is a hybrid router of the CRS series for outdoor use. The device is equipped with five SFP ports and a moisture-proof housing, which makes it suitable for use where twisted pair imposes its limitations on the maximum range. The scope of application of FiberBox is installation on poles in a pair with an additional switch cabinet, which will provide moisture protection for the power subsystem and fiber de-soldering. In addition, the device can also be used on masts and shields.

Convenient installation on a DIN rail. For greater convenience, a special metal fastening element is included in the delivery package, which allows you to mount the device on a standard DIN rail. The CRS105-5S-FB housing is designed to protect optical connections and sockets from the negative effects of dust and moisture. And, although the FiberBox is designed on the basis of the CRS106-1C-5S, it does not have an additional combo port with PoE support.

Functional capabilities. The CRS105-5S-FB belongs to the CRS (Cloud Router Switch) family, which are multi-functional Layer 2 switches that combine Layer 3 capabilities. Unlike conventional switches, the CRS105 runs the full-featured RouterOS operating system with Level 5 license, while the regular Mikrotik switches run the simplified SwOS software. In addition to the operating system, support for routing functions is provided by a Qualcomm QCA8511 computer processor with an operating frequency of 400 MHz.

Although the device is equipped with 128 MB of RAM, the processing capabilities of the processor are sufficient only for processing and routing traffic that does not exceed 560-580 Mbit. In this regard, it is recommended to use switching mode from ports with partial use of L3. At the same time, the device has no restrictions on its use as a CAPsMAN controller for managing access points. Please note that port switching is implemented using a hardware Switch Chip, due to which processor resources are not used during Layer 2 processing.
