HPE LTO-8 Ultrium drives allow you to read or write data at a speed of 2.7 TB/h and store, encrypt and protect up to 30 TB of information on one cartridge. They are ideal for use in large-scale, mission-critical IT environments that require 24/7 data availability (with 2.5:1 data compression).

Increasing the number of tracks by 85% and bit density by 8% made it possible to increase the capacity of tape drives from 15 TB (LTO-7) to 30 TB (LTO-8): from 3584 tracks for LTO-6 to 6656 tracks for the 8th generation of HPE LTO-8 Ultrium cartridges with a capacity of 30 TB (with a compression ratio of 2.5: 1).

The memory chip in HPE LTO Ultrium cartridges reduces access times and improves media monitoring.

Ensuring reliable data recovery by preventing media failures and violations in the backup process regardless of load or operating conditions.

High reliability

A tape is a more reliable medium compared to an Enterprise SATA drive. At the same time, the error rate (BER) is 1 x 10 in the degree of 19 for LTO-8, and for Enterprise SATA hard drives - 1 x 10 in the degree of 15. The difference in reliability corresponds to four orders of magnitude - for example, a tape is 10,000 times more reliable compared to an Enterprise SATA hard drive.

The estimated data loss rate over 10 years for a 1 Ebyte archive is 1.1 Pbytes for a hard disk compared to 7.4 Tbytes for an LTO-8 tape drive.

A high-class mechanism of "intelligent capture" and a mechanical lock that prevents the guide pin from being pulled inside the housing of the tape drive. Sensors determine the correct connection and prevent failure of the guide pin, which can lead to the destruction of the tape drive. A simplified path to the belt that limits wear, tear and dirt build-up (which is important for automation)

The testing procedure for HPE products (loading-unloading, shoeshine effect testing, resistance to drops and external influences) is much stricter than the standards of LTO Ultrium drives. This approach ensures maximum reliability of data recovery.

HPE guarantees data retention on LTO Ultrium cartridges for 30 years. This is enough to meet the constantly growing requirements for data storage and archiving.
