Salt batteries (Zinc-Carbon, Zn-C) are inexpensive chemical current sources with a voltage of 1.5V, which use zinc and manganese oxide in an ammonium chloride electrolyte. They are ideal for low-power devices with occasional use (remote controls, clocks, wall clocks), but quickly discharge under high load and are ineffective in the cold.
